The seven sacraments touch all the stages and all the important moments of Christian life; they give birth and increase, healing and mission, to the Christian's life of faith. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, that is, CCC - paragraph 1210).
The sacraments are “efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us” (CCC 1131).
In plain words, the Catholic Church teaches that each Sacrament is a sacred and visible sign for us, created by Jesus Christ to give us grace, an undeserved gift from God.
